PARIS DIARY #1: MACARONS & MORE MACARONS

Last month I went for a short trip of 4 days to Paris during the holiday season, a bit of business but also a bit of pleasure! The last time I was in Paris was years ago and since it’s currently the top ‘Instagram’ location, I was very excited to go there again. Unfortunately we weren’t lucky with the weather, it was extremly cold and it even started to snow, which is very unique in Paris. I especially looked forward to visit the Christian Dior Couturier de Reve and of course eat a lot of macarons.

Waking up early isn’t a problem when the Thalys train stops in front of your house! From Rotterdam it only takes 2,5 hours to arrive at Gare du Nord, which is very close ot the city center. I’m definitely already planning to go back in the spring or summer again.

Cafe Pouchkine Paris

Is there a better way to start your trip in Paris than with macarons? I spotted an adorable pastel pink cafe called Pouchkine at the Louvre ‘shopping’ entrance. I feel like when it comes down to macarons, you either love it or you hate it. Some people feel like it’s overhyped and others will buy boxes of them. I’m one of those people that loves them, but always try to eat them on special occasions only since they can be quite expensive!

Notre-Dame Cathedral (Tower) –  Paris View

After dropping our baggage of at our place in Le Marais (one of the best neighbourshoods in Paris), we decided to visit the first monument on our list: the Notre-Dame Cathedral. The Notre-Dame is a place that you need to visit if you come to Paris! We accidently stepped into the wrong queue and ended up climbing the tower as well, which was a nice surprise. The view is absolutely worth it, unfortunately we were not lucky with the cloudy weather, but I can imagine how nice it must look during the spring/summer. The Notre-Dame is at the center of Paris, which means you will be able to see almost everything from up there. It’s not a recommendation to climb the stairs if you are scared of heights, but always take a step inside the cathedral! Especially if you are into historical architecture, it’s a very interesting monument since it took almost 200 years to build the cathedral and the construction began back in 1163.

Laduree – 21 Rue Bonaparte – Paris

After visiting the Notre-Dame it started to snow and there was no better way than to warm up at Laduree! As I said before, I don’t only have a crazy obsession for macarons, I have always wanted to try their pasteries as well. If you can pick any location, I would recommend the famous Laduree at the Champs Elysees. But since the Laduree at Rue Bonaparte was much closer, we decided to go for this one!

Besides coffee, we decided to order the raspberry Ispahan and the Plaisir Sucré pastries. Unfortunatly I wasn’t lucky since the famous Ispahan pastry was sold out, but I decided to order a bunch of macarons instead. And I can guarantee you that they were gone in a few seconds! I was afraid that I would be disappointed by the Laduree experience, but I was actually very surprised. The Plaisir Sucré is the best chocolate pastry that we ever tried and I really liked the interior and the service in their tea room as well.

Musée de Louvre – Paris

Even if you are not interested in art, history or museums in general, you have to visit the world famous Louvre Museum. I wish that I had researched more about the art in the museum beforehand, because I didn’t realize how big it would be! When I come back next time to Paris I will be visiting it again, because there is so much to see. Yes, seeing the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci is great, but there are many other things as well such as: Egyptian antiquities,  Greek, Etruscan, and Roman antiquities; Islamic art and different sculptures. Even though I don’t have the biggest knowledge about history and art, I truly hope I can discover more the next time!

I spotted these micro-macarons in a store, how tiny are they? On the right you can see the regular macaron size. I wouldn’t buy them, but they looked so adorable!

Spotted: Jo Malone holiday collection, beautiful packaging!

Givenchy Beauty snowglobes

Galeries Lafayette – 40 Boulevard Haussmann – Paris

Last but not least we visited Galeries Lafayette for a bit of beauty shopping, even though we were exhausted. The holiday decoration made it an absolute musthave place to visit. The picture don’t do any justice since it looked so magical inside!

Even though it was cloudy and rainy, you’ve made such beautiful pictures! I have never been to Paris, but I would absolutely love to. And I didn’t know it’s only 2,5 hours by train. I’m going to look for traintickets, because I would love to go this spring! Malou x
